Warts in Garland, TX

A wart is a growth on the skin that may appear similar to a pea. Warts are caused by HPV, otherwise known as the human papillomavirus. Plantar warts are warts that can appear on the toes or bottoms of your feet, causing severe pain when pressure is put on the area. In addition to being unsightly and uncomfortable, plantar warts can affect the way you walk over time (as you try to avoid aggravating the wart). They can also spread, developing around the feet or growing in clusters. While plantar warts are generally not a significant threat to your health, you may still wish to have them treated for aesthetic or comfort reasons. If you have noticed an unusual growth on your foot that has you concerned, schedule a consultation with the professionals at Agape Foot Care in Garland, Waxahachie, and Kaufman, TX. We'll be happy to review your treatment options and discuss the best way to help you get relief from plantar warts.

Most patients with plantar warts usually start by trying over-the-counter treatments, which may be effective in some cases. However, a wart that has been treated may still come back if it isn't completely addressed. For persistent warts, our team at Agape Foot Care offers freezing therapy, which involves applying liquid nitrogen to the plantar wart, causing it to die and fall off on its own. Another choice is cantharidin, a chemical that can be applied to the wart to blister it without harming the surrounding skin. Burning (electrosurgery) or cryotherapy (freezing) can also be used, in addition to scraping with a curette or excising (cutting) the wart(s). Laser treatments, chemical peels, immunotherapy, or bleomycin injections are also used for treatment if the wart is hard to treat.

The most obvious symptom of a plantar wart is the wart itself, which may appear similar in shape to a pea (though sizes can differ). Some other signs of plantar warts include:

  • Fleshy lumps that are speckled with black spots
  • Discoloration on or around the growth
  • Pain around the growth
  • Bleeding

In some cases, a plantar wart may grow inward instead of outward, resembling a painful foot callus.

Left foot pain. I've had this unexplained for a while. An x-ray didn't explain why it was hurting, so I was referred to a podiatrist. Once I described what I was experiencing, the doctor went right to the spot it was hurting the most without me pointing at it. He had a quick diagnosis and gave me two steroid shots for my next two appts. I recommend him.
