Bunions in Garland, TX

A bunion is a bony deformity that forms at the base of the big toe. Bunions develop when the bones of the feet shift out of place, pulling the big toe into the others and pushing the joint outward. Individuals with bunions often face a variety of challenges as a result of their condition, from walking to finding shoes that fit comfortably. Bunions can sometimes go away on their own, but when the pain becomes too much to handle or the deformity worsens, professional care may be necessary to restore your quality of life. The experienced podiatrists at Agape Foot Care have helped countless patients relieve their bunion pain and regain their mobility, and they can help you, too. Reach out to our office in Waxahachie, Garland, or Kaufman, TX to learn about your treatment options.

During your initial at-home or in-office visit, we'll examine your foot and go over your symptoms to assess the severity of your bunion. For more extreme cases, such as when the big toe crosses over the foot, we may take x-rays to gain a more comprehensive view. For milder bunions, we often recommend stretches and splints (to be worn at night) to help move the big toe back into its proper position. Other options include custom orthotic shoes and anti-inflammatory medication to limit pain and swelling. Severe bunions may require surgery to correct the issue.

The pain caused by a bunion can range from mild to severe. In some cases, bunion pain may go away for a short time before coming back again. Other symptoms of bunions include:

  • Redness and/or inflammation around the big toe joint
  • Pain when pressure is applied to the joint
  • The big toe pushing over or under the other toes
  • Frequent corns or calluses on the affected toe
  • A bony growth on the outside of the big toe joint

Left foot pain. I've had this unexplained for a while. An x-ray didn't explain why it was hurting, so I was referred to a podiatrist. Once I described what I was experiencing, the doctor went right to the spot it was hurting the most without me pointing at it. He had a quick diagnosis and gave me two steroid shots for my next two appts. I recommend him.
