Ganglion Cysts in Garland, TX

A cyst is a fluid-filled sac that looks like a lump growing under the skin. Ganglion cysts develop near the joints of the hands and feet, typically showing up around the wrists, fingers, ankles, and toes. It's not fully understood what causes ganglion cysts to appear, but studies suggest they may occur more often in individuals with osteoarthritis or those who have experienced a tendon or joint injury. Ganglion cysts are not a sign of any serious health issue, but they can be unsightly and may even cause pain if they're located near a nerve. If you have ganglion cysts and are exploring your options to have them removed, schedule a consultation and foot exam with the staff at Agape Foot Care in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Our podiatrists have extensive experience treating cysts and other foot disorders.

During your consultation, we'll investigate the cyst and discuss how we can treat it. In some cases, we may order imaging tests or draw a small amount of fluid to confirm a diagnosis. Cysts can go away on their own, but there are a number of treatments we might recommend if you have a growth that is persistent or causing pain. The most common treatments for ganglion cysts at Agape Foot Care involve splinting the joint to limit movement (which can cause cysts to grow) and draining (or aspiring) the cyst. If nonsurgical solutions aren't working, we may recommend surgery at our on-site facilities to fully remove the cyst.

Ganglion cysts are typically harmless, but it's still worth scheduling an exam with our podiatrists anytime you notice an unusual growth on your feet. Some of the signs of a ganglion cyst include:

  • Appearance of a fleshy lump with a smooth surface
  • Difficulty moving the affected joint
  • Pain, numbness, or a pricking feeling (if the cyst is putting pressure on a nerve)
  • Pain or discomfort when bending the joint

Left foot pain. I've had this unexplained for a while. An x-ray didn't explain why it was hurting, so I was referred to a podiatrist. Once I described what I was experiencing, the doctor went right to the spot it was hurting the most without me pointing at it. He had a quick diagnosis and gave me two steroid shots for my next two appts. I recommend him.
