What Are Ingrown Toenails?
Ingrown toenails are a common but serious problem that occurs when the nail doesn't grow properly, pushing down into the skin. Aside from being painful, ingrown toenails can cause infections under the skin, leading to serious health complications — and potentially even amputation — if they aren't treated. Certain groups of people are more prone to ingrown toenails, including diabetics, individuals with poor blood circulation, and those with compromised immune systems. However, they can happen to anyone for any number of reasons, including wrongly sized shoes and how you cut your nails. Ingrown toenails are among the most common conditions we treat at Agape Foot Care, and we have extensive experience helping patients find relief from their foot pain. Reach out to our office in Kaufman, Waxahachie, or Garland, TX to arrange your consultation.
How Do You Treat Ingrown Toenails?
The exact approach our staff might use for your ingrown toenail treatment will depend on the severity of your case. The first step is usually to lift the nail above the skin into its normal position. For more severe cases, we may need to remove part (or all) of the nail so it can regrow properly. Once we're finished, we'll provide aftercare instructions and discuss steps you can take to prevent the nail from becoming a problem again in the future. We may prescribe antibiotics if the toe is showing signs of infection.
What Are Some Symptoms of Ingrown Toenails?
The main symptom to indicate you have an ingrown toenail is severe pain around the nail. If you notice any of the following symptoms of ingrown toenails, we recommend contacting Agape Foot Care as soon as possible to schedule a consultation:
- Sensitivity around the area
- Redness and inflammation
- Skin growing over the top of the nail
- Bleeding or pus from the area
- Swelling from fluid buildup
Agape Foot Care Reviews
Left foot pain. I've had this unexplained for a while. An x-ray didn't explain why it was hurting, so I was referred to a podiatrist. Once I described what I was experiencing, the doctor went right to the spot it was hurting the most without me pointing at it. He had a quick diagnosis and gave me two steroid shots for my next two appts. I recommend him.
Dr. Smith came to my home today and he was so professional and very kind. My feet feel so much better.
Dr. Hayes took care of my daughter when she had an infected ingrown tonail. Hands down he is a wonderful Podiatrist!
After a very bad experience with another podiatrist I am blessed to have found Dr. Hayes
Dr. Phil is amazing. He removed my ingrown toenail and I have not had any problems since. Satisfied with my visit,
